Dead Horse Gully Opalfield, discovered in 1972, sits by itself about 20km NW of Coober Pedy. It's almost an anomaly as it's so isolated from the rest of the many Coober Pedy opalfields...maybe there's hope for more small opalfields in the area. And Dead Horse is famous for it's dark base rough opal similar to Allan's Rise.
0.90 ounce (28.3 gram) rough opal parcel with blue/red play-of-color in a grey and dark grey opal base. Individual rough opal weights: 7.3gm, 4.7gm, 2.8gm, 2.3gm, 2.2gm, 2.2gm, 2.2gm, 2.3gm, and 2.0gm. Scale=20mm.
